Nutcracker 2008 - Auditions

Each year we begin with a brand new cast determined by open auditions for serious dancers ages 8 to 18. The company is divided into four sections:        Senior Company        
                                                                           Junior Company
                                                                           Children’s Company
                                                                           Adult Company
For all auditions a panel of judges, unfamiliar with any auditioning dancer, scores each exercise on a scale of 1 to 10. Scores are entered into a data base and tabulated before they are matched with the name. In the case of the children’s company, heights are taken into consideration as well.

You must talk this over with your family. If you are accepted, the Triangle Youth Ballet's Nutcracker Performing Company will expect a great deal of commitment from you. To pre-register to audition, you may mail the completed application form with commitment contract along with the audition fee to:

You may also bring them to the registration table before the audition. If accepted you will be expected to rehearse every weekend between your acceptance and performances, including the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend!)

Senior Company Auditions
Wednesday, August 20
Triangle Youth Ballet

registration opens at 5:00 and audition is 5:30 - 7:30
$10.00 audition fee

To be eligible for the Senior company, dancers must be between 12 and 18 at the date of the audition. Ladies should bring pointe shoes. The class will be easy and basic with exercises designed to illustrate technique and stage presence. If accepted, you may be offered a role in the senior company or the junior company. Seniors perform in both Act I and Act II of the Nutcracker and have a solo role. Seniors also dance at the Sugar Plum Fairy Tea.

registration opens at 1:00 and the audition is 1:30 - 3:00 for 8 to 10 year olds and 3:00 - 4:30 for dancers 11 and older.
$10.00 audition fee

Junior company hopefuls must be at least 11 at the time of the audition. They perform in Act I as mice or soldiers in the battle scene. In Act II, junior company members are either Mirlitons (Reed Flute) or Matroishkas (Trepak).

The Children’s company is made up of young dancers 8 and older at the time of the audition. Children fill the roles of party children in Act I and a dozen small angels or 8 gingerbread cookies in Act II.

Adult Auditions
Adult members are invited back from year to year to reprise their roles as parents in the party scene. As parts become available, they are filled through an on going wait list. To apply as an adult performer, contact our office at 932-2676.

To be considered for our Performing Company,

you must apply to be a student at the Triangle Youth Ballet and for placement in the Triangle Youth Ballet Ensemble Dancers or our Professional Training Track.  Admittance into either of these levels is by invitation only and requires a commitment of daily technique classes and
to our full performance season.
